About Us

Clonageera Irish Setters kennel was established around 1970 by Pat Rutherford and her first husband, with beautiful dogs from Joan Anderson’s Andana stock. Her first Show Champion, Sh.Ch. Bella Rosa of Andana could be said to be one of the most important links between the famous Wendover post war Champions and today’s show setters. The name of the second, Sh Ch Jason of Andana of Clonageera, sire of ten Show Champions, can be found in many present day Irish Red Setter pedigrees.

After thirty years of producing gorgeous show winning and loving family dogs Pat remarried and moved to the United States, taking just a few young Clonageera setters, including Jason, Pure Geniuse by Clonageera.

Back again in the green fields of Somerset, in South West England, Pat has returned from ten years in California with husband Bob and a graceful mob of American Champion Irish Setters from the best of UK and US lines, descended from Jason.

Jon and Jean Lippett fell in love with Clonageera Irish setters when they picked up puppy Hero in 1988, to be followed in 1995 by Star, a beautiful dog who had no interest in dog shows, feeling that they wasted valuable squirrel and rabbit hunting time. They were involved in the relocation of the Clonageeras and are now partners in the kennel, with their exquisite Show Champion, Neathamill Isabella of Clonageera, (Bella) the dam with Jason of the Clonageera Born to Run litter.

As breeders, exhibitors and people who live with and love our dogs, their health and happiness is very important to us. A good, stable, loving temperament is vital, and all our dogs are hereditarily clear from CLAD, PRA RCD1 and PRA RCD4, have had hips scored and excellent eye test results.
